People like to see what you and your band look like — it’s that simple. With an EPK, you have two main ways to grab attention: sound and sight. Make sure they’re both worth the time. To get started, go to Edit My EPK and select the Media Files tab.

Make the most of your gallery by keeping these basic things in mind:

The maximum height/width for the Main Photo is 170 pixels. Have a long photo that you want to use as your Main Photo? Try adding a decorative edge to make it stand out.

Consider cropping large photos so promoters can get a closer look. You can keep the original version in your photo gallery.

Be sure to title images in your photo gallery so promoters know what they’re looking at. This may seem obvious, but we see lots of images with generic titles like “band_12.jpg.”

If you have a Supersonic EPK, position your high-resolution photo first so that promoters and press don’t have to dig to find it. Simply use the up and down arrows to change the order. The title will automatically be appended with “Click here for print quality (high-res) version.”

Your photo says a lot about your experience level. Professionally taken promotional shots show that you are serious about your career. But not all professional photographers are right for everyone. Check out this article for more info.

Show off your personality. Here’s a good example of a professional photo that fits this blues and jazz artist perfectly.

Show off your logo. An alternative to having a shot of your band as your main photo is to upload your band’s logo. Check out Double Take in Boston for an example.

Show off your album cover. You put a lot of time (and perhaps even money) into making sure the cover of your album was perfectly you. Your EPK should be perfectly you, too, just like this one.

Remember that your EPK is designed to get bookers, festivals, A&R reps, and other promoters excited about your music and performances. You’ve got 10 slots for photos. Make them count by selecting the ones that clearly show you at your best. Try to have a mix of candid, performance, and posed photographs and graphic images. Variety helps.

The high-resolution photos on your EPK make it easy for print editors to feature your promo shot(s) on their glossy front pages (or anywhere at all). If you want your photo to accompany a review or any announcement about your music or shows, you’re going to want to have some good quality shots to choose from. Standard subscribers get 1 High resolution Photo, and Supersonic get 5.

Bonus idea: Include a high resolution graphic of a band poster. Encourage fans to download it, print it and promote your upcoming shows or releases. Offer it as a free desktop wallpaper.

Technical tips: All photos should be either JPG or GIF format. If you are scanning photographs, you should scan at a resolution of 72 DPI (”dots per inch”) for the web. If you scanned a full size 8×10 photo, you most likely will need to resize the image. Check out Zamzar.com for free online file conversion if you need help converting a photo into one of our acceptable upload formats.

Each EPK can house up to 10 of your images in the photo gallery. But Supersonic EPKs also get up to 5 high-resolution, print quality, ready-to-download photos (great for press)! There are no pre-specified dimension requirements for your photos, but if your images are greater than 350 pixels in height or width, they will be scaled down proportionally on upload to fit the size of the EPK.
